ABOUT US

Our Story Begins with Birthwork and a Commitment to Maternal Health

Because Black Families Deserve Culturally Centered Care

OUR MISSION

Black birthworkers deserve visibility. Black families deserve culturally aligned, affirming care. This directory was created to help bridge that gap—making it easier to find, connect with, and support Black perinatal professionals in your area.

Michigan-Black-Birthworker-Directory

In the face of a maternal health crisis disproportionately affecting Black women and birthing people, this platform offers more than a list—it’s a tool for advocacy, connection, and collective care.

For Families: To find care that sees them.

For Birthworkers: To be found, valued, and connected.

For Allies: To support and uplift Black-led care work.

WE ARE A VILLAGE OF BLACK DOULAS AND BIRTHWORKERS

Dedicated to improving maternal health outcomes and amplifying our impact. Meet the team behind the vision.

I have walked this road before and it is much better when you are not alone. I believe maternal health & well being are undervalued and I look forward to helping families utilize the directory across the state. Connecting with perinatal professionals that look like you can really transform the parenthood journey.

As a postpartum doula I provide support to parents as they welcome a new family member. Planning ahead for postpartum can help smooth the transitions as you adjust to your new family dynamics and get settled. I would love to make this a reality for more families in Michigan especially foster, adoption + single and teen parents.

Outside of birthwork, I enjoy being outdoors, traveling & spending time with my family.

As a dedicated Birth Doula, Public Health professional, and Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator, I am deeply committed to transforming Black maternal health and ensuring every birthing person feels seen, heard, and supported.

With a heart rooted in community and a passion for reproductive justice, I believe that access to culturally competent, compassionate care is a right and not a privilege.

We created this statewide Black birthworker directory to help bridge the gap in access and connect Black birthing people with trusted, culturally competent care providers across the state.

My mission is to make it easier for families to find the support they need and to ensure Black birthworkers are seen, valued, and celebrated for the essential care they provide.

I have been a birth doula for 10 years.  I know all too well what it feels like to travel this road without much guidance and what a difference having a colleague and friend to share your thoughts, reflections and get some tips about on how to best serve the families who need you!

As a professional it is important to make connections and to create a village of experts that can help all those who are experiencing changes and challenges in the childbearing years.

I am an avid believer that we are global citizens and enjoy connecting our experience across the African diaspora. It is not uncommon to see me traveling to learn and amplify our shared human experience around maternal and birth justice in other places around the world, and I love taking birthworkers along with me!

I hope you get what you need by being a member of this directory. You are welcomed and you belong!

Head to the directory to find trusted black birthworkers near you.
